P. Mark Smith

Executive Chairman

Mr. Smith has more than 40 years of experience in the industry with expertise ranging from exploration, mining, research, advising, and arranging financings. Mr. Smith started his career as a geologist in the mining and exploration industry and throughout his career became a Senior Mining Analyst and later a Managing Director Investment Banker. He spent 20 years working for several mining companies including Cominco, and the Mineral Deposits Section of the Ontario Geological Survey before transitioning into the brokerage industry in 1997. For the next 11 years he worked as a mining analyst with Marleau-Lemire, C.M. Oliver, First Associates, and Dundee Securities, specializing in gold. Over the next decade Mr. Smith was an Investment Banker with Dundee Securities, Stifel Nicolas, and M Partners where he provided financial, technical, marketing, general corporate, and strategic advice as well as arranged financing for private and public companies in the mining and exploration sector. From the mid 1990's Mr. Smith served on the PDAC technical committee responsible for the highly successful PDAC convention in Toronto, Canada. In 2001 and 2002 he was Chairman of the convention, and remained as a Director of the PDAC until 2005. Mr. Smith has B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in Earth Science from the University of Waterloo.

Alan Carter

President, Chief Executive Officer and Director

Dr. Carter has over 25 years of experience in the minerals exploration industry. He spent seven years working for Rio Tinto Corp. in South America and the United Kingdom, most recently as Exploration Manager in Bolivia. In 1996, he became President and CEO of Balaclava Mines and moved to Lima, Peru. Dr. Carter joined Billiton Plc in 1998 and in 2000 moved from Lima to Vancouver. Following the merger of Billiton with BHP, he assumed the role of Manager, Business Development within the BHP Billiton Exploration Group and was the Chief Operating Officer of Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. from mid-2004 to late 2006. Dr. Carter was a co-founder of both Peregrine Metals Ltd. and Cuprum Resources Ltd., and is currently a director of Peregrine Diamonds Ltd., Blackrock Gold Corp. and Anfield Gold Ltd, and Chairman of Fremont Gold Inc. He has a B.Sc. degree in Geology from the University of Nottingham, U.K. and a Ph.D. degree in gold geochemistry from the University of Southampton, U.K. Most recently, Dr. Carter founded Magellan Minerals Inc. which listed on the TSX Venture Exchange in early 2008 and was acquired by Anfield Gold Corp. in May 2016.

Charles Oliver


Mr. Oliver has over 25 years of experience as a fund manager. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation and a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Mr. Oliver is currently a director of Klondex Mines Ltd. and Integra Gold Corp.  He was formerly Lead Portfolio Manager of the Gold and Precious Metals Fund at Sprott Asset Management and Senior Vice President and Lead Portfolio Manager of several funds, including the Precious Metals Fund, at AGF Funds

Dennis Moore


Mr. Moore has over 35 years of experience as an exploration geologist. Originally working for major companies in Australia and the South West Pacific, he later became involved with several of Ross Beaty’s early companies in Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. Dennis co-founded Magellan Minerals Inc. with Alan Carter in 2005 and remained as an officer of the company through its formative years. Mr. Moore discovered and drilled the 1.8M ounce Tocantinzinho deposit being developed by Eldorado Gold Corp and has been directly involved in at least four other gold discoveries in South America, including Amayapampa in Bolivia, and Cuiú Cuiú, Coringa and Cajuiero in Brazil. Mr. Moore is currently President of Fremont Gold Inc., a Nevada focused gold exploration company.

Derrick Weyrauch


Mr. Weyrauch has over 27 years of experience that includes corporate financial management, financings, corporate restructuring, strategic planning and merger and acquisition transactions. He currently serves as a non-executive director on the Audit Committee for the board of directors of Banro Corporation.  Mr. Weyrauch was previously the Chief Financial Officer of Jaguar Mining Inc., and, prior to its sale in 2013, was the Chief Financial Officer of Andina Minerals Inc. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA), is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the Institute of Corporate Directors and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
